Box Score 2 Old Westbury, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team traveled to Old Westbury, NY on Monday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader against the Panthers of SUNY College at Old Westbury. The Bulldogs swept the doubleheader at Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex, taking game one by a score of, 11-7, and game two by a score of 10-6 (five innings).
With the wins, Brooklyn improves to 11-9 overall on the season, while Old Westbury drops to 6-9 overall on the year.
In the opener, the Brooklyn offense exploded for a six-run third inning, as the Bulldogs scored 10 runs through the first four innings. Sophomore
Arislenia Rodriguez capped the six-run third with a three-run homerun to centerfield that scored junior
Maria Mantagas and senior
Allison Donovan. Rodriguez finished the game going 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Mantagas would finish the game with three runs scored.
The Panthers would score two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to cut their deficit 11-7; however, Brooklyn starter senior
Amanda Bisz (2-1) and classmate
Marie Oneto would hold off the home team. Bisz picked up the win, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits, while walking two and striking out six over six innings. Oneto finished the game, pitching one inning in relief, allowing two hits. Bisz also helped herself out at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Along with Bisz and Rodriguez, seniors
Meagan Cranston,
Stephanie Caravello and Donovan all had two hits each. Caravello and Donovan also drove in two runs each.
Nicole DeCola (5-6) took the loss, allowing 11 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits, while walking one and striking out one over seven innings.
Jennifer Jean went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Alexis Ferrero went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, including a two-run homerun to left center in the first inning.
Game two saw the Bulldogs use another big inning rally, as BC plated six runs in the fourth to go ahead 10-2.
Arislenia Rodriguez once again had the big hit, as her two-run single brought home both Donovan and Caravello. Rodriguez, Cranston, Caravello and Donovan all had two-hits in the nightcap. Senior
Nicole Tufano drove in three runs in the game for BC.
For Old Westbury, Protasiewicz had a big game, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. Jean went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Junior
Kayla Hill started game two, going 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, while walking five. Oneto came in relief in the fourth facing the bases loaded and was able to get Brooklyn out of the jam and preserve the 10-6 lead. Oneto finished the game tossing the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out one. The game would be called after five innings due to rain.
McKay (1-2) took the loss allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits, while walking five and striking out two over five innings.
Brooklyn returns the diamond on Wednesday, April 9th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Purchase, NY to take on the Panther of SUNY Purchase College in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:30 pm.
