Box ScoreBrooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team blanked borough foe St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match at the Roosevelt Courts.
With the win, BC evens its overall record on the year to 3-3, while St. Joseph's (BK) drops to 0-4 overall.
The Bulldogs took an early 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles play.
Elliot Haddad and
Charles Stevens easily won at #1 doubles (8-0), while
Stanley Purcell and
Trevaughn Daley took an 8-1 win at #2 doubles. Making his collegiate debut,
Asher Korycka teamed up with
Robin Varughese to win 8-3 at #3 doubles.
Haddad (6-0, 6-0), Purcell (6-0, 6-0) and Varughese (6-1, 6-0) continued their strong play in singles, taking home wins at #1, #2 and #3 singles, respectively.
Deshi Wu (6-3, 6-3) and
Brandon Green (6-0, 6-0) also won in straight sets at #4 and #6 singles, respectively.
The match of the day came at #5 singles, where
Tashfeen Afzal earned a hard fought, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6), three-set super tiebreaker win.
Brooklyn will return to action this Saturday, April 12th, as the Bulldogs will host the Lightning of Lehman College in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action. The match is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start time at the Roosevelt Courts.
