Bronx, NY----In a game for first-place in the CUNYAC, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team would usea strong second second half to lift them to a 54-45 victory. The Bulldogs improve to 7-3 overall and remain undefeated in the CUNYAC at 4-0 with their third win in a row. Lehman drops to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the CUNYAC. The loss snaps a four-game win-streak for the Lightning. BC will have a two-week lay-off before returning to action at home against NYU. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM at the West Quad Center.
Trailing by 11 points with just over eight minutes left in the third period, the Bulldogs would go on a 13-2 run that would give them their first lead of the game (31-29) with 2:35 remaining in the period. BC would go into the final quarter with a 33-31 advantage.
The Lightning would retake a one point lead on an Amely Del Rosario three-point play with 8:55 remaining in the game. It was their last lead of the contest.
With the game tied 34-34 with 8:26 left in the game, the Bulldogs made a 5-0 run providing a cushion that eventually turned into a a double-digit lead with 2:48 to go. BC extended their lead to as many as 14 points with :37 remaining in the game.
The Bulldogs' play in the second half was a drastic improvement from the first. BC found themselves trailing by as many as 16 points with 3:36 before haftime. Lehman would lead 25-10 going into the break.
Shooting a dismal 14.29% in the first half, the Bulldogs turned it around from the field in the second, connecting on 53.57% of their shots.
Junior forward
Olivia Colbert scored 23 of her game-high 24 points in the second half. She also grabbed 15 rebounds for the game's only double-double. Junior guard
Twanda Holder also reached double figures in scoring with ten points. Maya Agee-Thomas finished with 14 rebounds on the evening to go along with six points.
Lehman's Amaly Del Rosario, the CUNYAC's leading scorer, led the Lightning with 19 points.
