Box ScoreThe Bronx, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Tennis team (6-8 overall / 4-3 CUNUAC) defeated the Lightning of Lehman College (4-8 overall / 1-6 CUNYAC) on Tuesday in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action at the APEX Tennis Courts by a score of 7-2.
Brooklyn took an early 2-1 lead as the Bulldogs took two out of three in doubles play. The pairings of
Elliot Haddad and
Albert Benjamin (8-2) and
Alan Esses and
Andrew Mendelsohn (8-1) were victorious at #2 and #3 doubles, respectively.
Moving to singles action, Haddad (6-1, 6-2), Benjamin (6-1, 6-2) and Esses (6-0, 6-1) continued their solid play to win their singles flights, #1, #4 and #6 respectively.
Stanley Purcell gutted out a solid three-set win at #3 singles, as he dropped the opening set 6-2, before coming back to win the second set, 6-4, and force a third-set tiebreaker. Purcell would take the final set 10-5.
Jordan Ovadia took #5 singles, 6-3, 6-2, as the Bulldogs would take five of the six flights en route to its 7-2 victory.
With the regular season now complete, Brooklyn will look towards the CUNYAC Championships, as the #4 seeded Bulldogs will host #5 John Jay College in the Quarterfinals Round this Friday, April 24th. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start time at the Roosevelt Courts on the BC campus. The winner will advance to the semifinals round on Sunday, April 26th at the USTA National Tennis Center and face #1 seed Hunter College.
Brooklyn edged out a 5-4 win over John Jay in the regular season back on March 19th at the Roosevelt Courts.
