ECAC SEMIFINAL Brooklyn, NY---For the second season in a row, the #1-sedded Brooklyn College women's basketball team will be playing for an ECAC Metro/Upstate Championship, defeating #4-seeded Centenary College this evening, 65-40, in the semifinal game. The Bulldogs will take on the winner of the College of Staten Island and Rutgers-Camden in the other semifinal, tomorrow at 1:00 PM in the ECAC Metro/Upstate Championship game.
Never trailing in the game, the Bulldogs grabbed their first double-digit lead with 2:09 remaining in the first period. A
Twanda Holder theree-point make with 6:23 to go in the first half helped the Bulldogs take a 28-12 lead, their largest of the game to that point. BC pushed the lead to 20 points on an
Alexandra Moogan lay-in a minute later.
The Cyclones chipped away at the BC lead toward the end of the first half, cutting it down to eleven points with a little over a minute to play. However, the Bulldogs had the last say in the half with sophomore guard,
Karen Mak scoring a lay-up with six seconds to go.
Junior guard
Karen Mak opened the third period with a made three-point field goal to give the Bulldogs a 41-27 lead out of the gate.
An
Olivia Colbert pull-up jumper extended the Bulldog lead to 47-31 with a little over five minutes to play in the third. An
Alexandra Moogan three a couple of minutes later pushed the lead to 21.
The Bulldogs led 58-34 heading into the final period on an
Olivia Colbert made jumper.
Clearing the bench for the majority of the final period, the Bulldogs did not let up keeping a 20-plus point lead until the final buzzer. Junior forward
Olivia Colbert led all scorers with 20 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds in the semifinal win. Freshman guard
Alexandra Moogan provided a huge spark off of the bench for the Bulldogs, finishing with 14 points including 4-8 from beyond the arc. Junior guard
Twanda Holder also chipped in 14 points including a perfect 2-2 from three-point land.
Setting the tone defensively from the start, the Bulldogs limited the Cyclones to a 24.6% shooting night from the floor.
