Brooklyn, NY----With the Brooklyn College men's basketball team clinging to a two-point lead with just under three seconds to play in regulation, Medgar Evers would knock down a fall-away three-pointer at the buzzer for the 74-73 win, handing the Bulldogs their fifth loss in a row. The Bulldogs move to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in CUNYAC with the conference loss. Medgar Evers improves to 3-6 and 2-2 with the victory. Brooklyn continues conference play at CCNY on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm following the women's game.
Brooklyn would lead by as many as 14 points in the second half with help of the hot hand of senior guard
Chris McIllhatton who scored twenty of his game-high 28 points in the second half. The Cougars began to chip away at the Bulldog lead at the 9:15 mark in the second half with a 12-0 run, making it a 63-61 BC lead with 5:14 left in the game. A McIllhatton three point make with 5:10 remaining gave Brooklyn a two-possession. Following a Medgar Evers made jumper, McIllhatton buried another three to give Brooklyn the 69-63 advantage with just over four minutes to go. After two more free-throw exchanges, the Cougars ended the game with a 5-0 run.
Trailing 44-43 with 16:12 left in the second half, freshman guard,
Michael Tesoriero, knocked down a three to help BC retake the lead. Brooklyn would lead for the rest of the second half until the Cougars' go-ahead buzzer-beating three.
Brooklyn came out hot to start the contest, grabbing an 11-0 lead in the opening 4:09. Just like they had in the second half, the Cougars scratched and clawed their way back into the game, trailing 28-27 with 5:28 left in the first half. Brooklyn then outscored the Cougars 11-5 to take a 39-32 halftime lead.
Junior guard
Maynard Grant IV was Brooklyn's only other scorer to reach double-figures with 11 points for the game. McIllhatton finished the evening shooting 5-10 from beyond the arc.
