Staten Island, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team finished the College of Staten Island non-conference tri-match with a split this afternoon, defeating the host, 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-23) in their first match and falling to William Paterson University, 0-3 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22). BC moves to 7-5 overall with the split. The Bulldogs return to conference play on Tuesday at Baruch.
Match Notes vs. CSI (2-7)
-Brooklyn opened the match with a 5-0 rally and never looked back in the first game. The Bulldogs were just as dominant in the second game thanks in-part to an 8-0 run halfway through the set. The home team didn't lay down, taking a late 22-20 lead before the Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run to take the lead for good and close the match out on a kill by senior outside hitter,
Sarina Rozek.
-Rozek led BC with a match-high 18 kills. Junior outside hitter
Michaela Appel finished with 10 kills. Freshman setter
Kate Meltsin finished with a match-high 16 assists and six service aces.
Match Notes vs. WPU (6-5)
-The first game was played evenly with the teams exchanging rallies and leads throughout. Trailing 24-20, Brooklyn's 3-0 run would fall short following a WPU kill to end the game. WPU controlled the second game from the start, jumping out to an 11-1 lead. BC would find themselves behind 7-3 early in the third game before a five-point push that cut the Pioneer lead to 11-10. The Pioneers responded with a 3-0 run to stop the bleeding and kept the Bulldogs at bay the remainder of the match despite BC's two-three point flurries.
-Rozek and Appel combined for 29 kills for the match with Rozek leading the way with 15. Sophomore libero Jailene Paredes led the Bulldogs defensively with 24 digs.
