Women's Volleyball Takes Both at NJCU Tri-Match

New Jersey City, NJ---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team won both matches at a non-conference tri-mtach hosted by New Jersey City University this afternoon.  In their first match, the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 (16, 23, 19) sweep of Sarah Lawrence College.  BC wrapped up the day, battling the host to a 3-1 (23, 27-25, 21-25, 25-19) victory.  The Bulldogs improve to 16-7 overall with the wins.  Brooklyn will host its final match of the season in conference play on Tuesday, October 23, against York College at 6:00 pm.  Senior Night activities with take place prior to the match. 

Brooklyn was led by senior outside hitter, Michaela Appel's 30 kills for the day.  She finished with a team-high 15 digs in the win against Sarah Lawrence and team highs in aces (4) and blocks (3) against NJCU.   

The Bulldogs set the tone from the start against Sarah Lawrence, jumping out to a 19-9 lead in the first set.  Sarah Lawrence stuck with the Bulldogs most of the way through the second set, but Brooklyn rallied for three straight scores to take a 23-18 lead. In addition to Appel's match-high 16 kills, freshman setter, Ezri Shor, added seven kills to go along with a match-high three service aces and a team-high 12 assists.  

Brooklyn would be tested by the host school in its second match of the afternoon.  Trailing the Gothic Knights, 22-19, in the opening set, the Bulldogs rallied for five straight scores to take a 24-22 lead.  Shor ended the first set with a kill assisted by sophomore setter, Claudia Moi.  Shor finished with eight kills, a team-high 16 assists, and 13 digs.  

The Bulldogs found themselves trailing the Gothic Knights in the second set, 16-13, but once again rallied for a 5-0 run for an 18-16 advantage.  With the set tied, 25-25, Brooklyn scored two straight for the win, capped by a Shor block.  

After dropping the third set, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-4 lead to start the fourth.  A late four-score rally gave Brooklyn a 24-16 advantage and the Bulldogs were well on their way to the win.
