Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2018-19 season this evening, falling to No. 7 Amherst College, 60-27, at the West Quad Center. Brooklyn moves to 3-1 overall with the loss while the two-time defending national champs improve to 4-1 with the non-conference victory. The Bulldogs will have a almost a week to prepare for Cabrini University on Friday, December 7, which will be a rematch of both teams' First Round NCAA Tournament game last March. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm in Radnor, PA.
How It Happened
-Following a tight first period with Amherst clinging to a 9-7 lead, the Mammoths opened up the second with an 8-0 run. Brooklyn would only manage a bucket in the second period as the Mammoths closed out the first half with an 11-0 run to take a 29-9 halftime lead.
-Brooklyn's offensive struggles continued following the break and Amherst capitalized heading into the final period with a 34-point advantage.
-Amherst's stingy defense kept the Bulldogs to 17.8% from the floor for the game. The Bulldogs shot 1-11 from the behind the arc for the evening.
Leading the Bulldogs
-Sophomore forward,
Chanel Jemmott, scored a team-high 11 points.
-Junior forward,
Dionna Rogers, continued to rebound the ball well off of the bench, finishing with a team-high eight boards.
Leading the Mammoths
-Madeline Eck and Hannah Fox shared game-high honors in scoring with 13 points each. Fox finished with the game's only double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds. She also dished out a game-high five assists.
