Brooklyn Cracks Century Mark to Clinch Regular Season CUNYAC Title at York

Jamaica, NY----For the second year in a row, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team has claimed the CUNYAC regular season title!  BC rolled to a 101-61 victory at York College this evening to secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC conference tournament.  Brooklyn closes out the regular season with a 22-3 overall record including a 14-2 mark in conference play.  York drops to 8-17 and 5-11 in CUNYAC.  The Bulldogs will have a bye to the conference tournament's semifinal round at CCNY on February 21.  Official seeding and tournament schedule will be announced tomorrow, February 14th.  

How It Happened

-With the score tied, 11-11, with 4:49 left in the first quarter, the Bulldogs went on a 13-3 run to close out the quarter, taking the lead for good in the process. 
-BC carried its momentum from the end of the first quarter into the second as they went on a 23-2 run to start the quarter sparked by three three-point makes buried by freshman guard, Michelle Pena.  
-Brooklyn would go on to lead by as many as 45 points in the second half.  
-Every BC player that stepped on the court scored at least three points tonight.  

Box Score Breakdown

-BC shot 50% (41-82) from the field including 45% (14-31) from beyond the arc as a team. 
-The Brooklyn bench contributed 49 points on the evening. 
-BC forced 30 Cardinal turnovers. 

Leading the Bulldogs

-Senior guard, Karen Mak, led the way with 13 points, 7 assists with only 1 turnover, and 4 steals.
-Freshman guards, Taylor George and Michelle Pena, finished with 12 points a piece.  It would Pena's BC career-high in scoring. 
-Senior center, Weronica Green, finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds.  

Leading the Cardinals

-Karen Bellamy scored a game-high 17 points.
-Giovana Rosado was the other York double-digit scorer with 12 points on the evening.
