Staten Island, NY---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team extended its win-streak to six in a row this afternoon, winning both matches of a conference tri-match at the College of Staten Island. In its first match of the day, the Bulldogs took down Medgar Evers, 3-1 (26-14, 23-24, 25-11, 25-18), followed by a 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-17) sweep of the host for the day, CSI. Brooklyn improves to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in CUNYAC with the two conference victories. The Bulldogs return to the court on Tuesday at Lehman College for a non-conference match. Opening serve is set for 6:00 pm.
After Brooklyn controlled the opening set of the match, Medgar Evers, evened the score, 1-1, by taking the second set despite a late Brooklyn push. BC jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the third set, which included a pair of Vaughn Titus kills during a four-point Bulldog rally. Senior middle hitter,
Ian Miranda closed out the third set with back-to-back service aces. Brooklyn continued its momentum from the third set into the fourth, taking a 10-5 lead early in the set. A late 5-1 BC rally capped by a kill hit by sophomore outside hitter, Gabriel Pjatak, put the set and match out of reach for the Cougars.
BC would find themselves tested from the opening serve against the home team, Staten Island. A point shy of dropping the first set of the match to the Dolphins, the Bulldogs rallied for three straight scores to retake the lead, 25-24. CSI tied the set on the next play before the Bulldogs won the set with back-to-back kills put away by Pjatak and sophomore middle hitter, Ahmed Moawad, respectively. Brooklyn would find themselves in another battle in the second set. Trailing the Dolphins, 19-18, the Bulldogs would retake the lead for good with a four-score rally, which included a pair of Miranda kills. Brooklyn closed out the second set with a Pjatak kill followed by a block finished by Miranda and freshman setter Akbarali Aliyev. BC cruised in the third set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead to start. The Bulldogs closed out the match with three straight kills.
Titus and Moawad led the Bulldogs with 20 kills a piece between the two matches. Pjatak finished the day with 19 kills. Junior setter, Sayuj Zachariah, finished with a team-high 28 assists for the day. Senior middle hitter,
Moaz Ali Choudhary, finished with a match-high four blocks in Brooklyn's sweep of CSI. Sophomore defensive specialist, Snigdho Hasan, led Brooklyn in digs for the day with 16.
