Jamaica, NY---The Brooklyn College women's basketball team outscored CCNY 24-10 in the third quarter propelling them to a 60-54 conference victory this evening. Brooklyn improves to 16-7 overall and 12-2 with in the CUNYAC win while CCNY drops to 14-9 and 9-5. The Bulldogs will host John Jay College on Monday for Senior Night in Brooklyn's final home game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 5:00 pm.
How It Happened
-Trailing the Beavers 36-26 at halftime, the Bulldogs opened the third quarter with an 11-0 run highlighted by a made three buried by sophomore guard,
Taylor George, at the 7:00 mark. Sophomore guard,
Michelle Pena, who started the run, gave Brooklyn a 37-36 advantage with 6:08 to play in the quarter.
-After a couple of lead exchanges in the next couple of minutes, Brooklyn would go on to lead by as many as seven points in the final two minutes of the third quarter.
-Brooklyn never relinquished the lead after heading into the final quarter with a 50-46 advantage. The Beavers did come within a bucket on a couple of occasions in the first 4:30 of the fourth, but another George three boosted BC's lead to 57-50 with 3:22 left in regulation.
-George scored 15 second half points.
-Four Brooklyn starters reached double-figures in scoring.
-The Bulldogs held CCNY to 28% shooting from the field in the second half after the Beavers shot 38.5% in the first.
-Brooklyn outscored CCNY 16-10 in points off of turnovers.
Leading the Bulldogs
-George finished with a team-high 19 points.
-Pena, senior forward,
Jasmine Hansgen, and sophomore forward,
Chanel Jemmott added 10 points a piece. Jemmott grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Hansgen added four steals and eight rebounds to her line.
Leading the Beavers
-Ashley Brooks scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the game's only double-double.
-Debra Chan added nine points.
