Radnor, PA---The Brooklyn College women's basketball team officially closed out the 2018-19 Season this afternoon, falling in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Basketball Championships to Grove City College, 64-55, at Cabrini University. Brooklyn ends the year with its eighth consecutive 20-win season in a row with a an overall mark of 20-9. Grove City improves to 17-11 with the victory and will advance to the semifinals of the tournament tomorrow.
How It Happened
-With the Bulldogs leading 48-46 heading into the fourth quarter, Grove City opened the final ten minutes of action with a 5-0 run, and would hold on to the lead for good. Brooklyn would not go away for the remainder of the contest and a three buried by sophomore guard
Michelle Pena with 6:09 to go would pull BC within a point, 54-53, of the Wolverines. However, Brooklyn would not be able to get over the hump and remained scoreless for the next five minutes of play. The Wolverines closed out the contest at the charity stripe, shooting 14-15 for the game as a team.
-The Bulldogs battled back from an 11-point hole early in the second half. A 9-0 run capped by a
Taylor George three-pointer cut Grove City's lead to 41-39 with 4:21 left in the third quarter. Brooklyn closed out the quarter with a 7-2 run for the 48-46 advantage.
-Trailing by 10 with 3:38 to go in the first half, Brooklyn went on a 7-0 run sparked by a George three and fastbreak lay-up to cut the Wolverines' halftime lead to 33-30.
-Grove City was perfect from the free-throw line in the second half (11-11) and 10-16 from beyond the arc for the game.
Leading the Bulldogs
-George paced all scorers with 20 points on 8-13 from the field including 3-5 from beyond the arc.
-Sophomore forward,
Chanel Jemmott, added 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.
-Senior wing,
Alexandra Moogan, a recent member of the 1,000-point club, closed out her BC career with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Leading the Wolverines
-Four starters reached double-figures in scoring led by Kate Balcom's 19 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds.
-McKenzie Black added 15 points on 5-8 from beyond the arc.
-Jess Bowen also finished with 15 points draining 4-6 from behind the arc.
