No. 3 Bulldogs Shutout Lehman, 6-0, Advancing to CUNYAC Semifinals

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---Advancing to the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men's Tennis Championships semifinals for the second straight year, No. 3 seeded Brooklyn shutout No. 6 seed, Lehman, 6-0, in the first quarterfinal match of the tournament this afternoon at Brooklyn College.  Brooklyn improves to 7-8 overall with the postseason tourney victory while the Lightning ends the season with a 1-10 mark.  The Bulldogs will take on No. 2 seed, College of Staten Island, in one of two semifinal matches at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center this Sunday, April 28, beginning at 1:00 pm.

"I was happy with the way we started with strong doubles play and how comfortable the pairs are starting to get with one another," third-year Brooklyn Head Coach, David Wallis would remark following the playoff win.  "We look forward to the challenge that awaits on Sunday.  If it mirrors the regular season match, it should be a good one."

The Bulldogs swept through doubles play only dropping one game in all three matches.  No. 1 doubles pair, Justin Vasquez and Andor Kasuba, started Brooklyn off with an 8-0 shutout over Lehman's Chris Mulholland and Ioannis Vasos.  Brooklyn's Jonathan Lum and Samuel Meyerovich also cruised to an 8-0 win over the Lightning's Anton Kyrylenko and Hugo Barrera at the No. 3 slot.  No. 2 doubles pair, Rohan Mathur and Remi Lawrence, closed out doubles play with an 8-1 win over LC's Miguel Haboosh and Michael Herrera.

Needing only two singles victories to advance, Vasquez gave Brooklyn its first  win with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Mulholland at the top flight.  Mathur also scored a shutout at the No. 2 slot over Haboosh, and simultaneously, BC's Christian Pena defeated Herrera 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 for the team win.  Pena closes out the year with an undefeated record on Brooklyn's home courts.
