Brooklyn, NY----Announced by the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) on Wednesday, the Brooklyn College softball team was picked second in this year's Preseason Coaches Poll. John Jay was picked to win the league for the fourth straight season. Brooklyn finished ahead of Hunter, Baruch, Lehman, and York in this year's voting. In addition, senior catcher and outfielder, Lianna Gonzlez, was named as BC's Player to Watch and freshman,
Kureshma Dhanraj, was selected as the Bulldogs' Pitcher to Watch.
Advancing to the final day of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament last season for the first time in a decade, the Bulldogs closed out the 2025 campaign with a 15-23 (6-4 CUNYAC) record. The team earned the most wins for the program since the 2015 Season under Head Coach, Frank Marinello, who enters his third year at the helm. Despite losing five seniors to graduation including three All-CUNYAC performers, the Bulldogs return a strong core of their lineup and welcome a talented and deep recruiting class.
Last season, Gonzalez finished the year tied for most hits (38) and homers (3) on the team. She also led the Bulldogs in slugging % (.596) and doubles (12).
Dhanraj enters her first season in the circle for Brooklyn with high expectations after a standout career at Central Islip high school. She expected to be a regular starter in the circle for BC this season.
Brooklyn opens the 2026 campaign on Sunday, March 1, on the road against Yeshiva University at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, NY. Opening pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
