Poughkeepsie, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (4-3) shook off a slow start to come from behind and knock off Vassar, 54-48 on Saturday afternoon.
Ashley Allen (William C. Bryant / Sunnyside, NY) hit the game clincher for BC as she buried a three pointer with under a minute left to increase the Brooklyn lead to 5.
The win was Brooklyn's third consecutive. "It is nice to keep the streak going," said Head Coach
Alex Lang, as he saw his team's record improve to 4-3 on the season. "It was really important to get the conference wins earlier this week, but we want to show that we can knock off some teams outside the league as well."
Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) led the way for BC with 23 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes. Brooklyn junior guard
Amber Gordon (Bishop Loughlin / Brooklyn, NY) scored in double-figures for the 5th consecutive game, having a solid all-around game with 12 points, 9 boards, 4 assists and 5 steals.
Vassar was led by senior post player Emily Haeuser (South Portland / South Portland, ME) who scored 14 points and pulled down 11 boards. Haeser scored her 1,000th career point in the second half of the game.
Up next for Brooklyn is another non-conference road game, only a little closer, as they will travel within the borough to take on St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) on Tuesday at 7:30 pm. The Bears are also off to a 4-3 start and should be a good early-season matchup for the Bulldogs.
