BC's Hard Fought Effort Comes Up Short In CUNYAC Semis

New York, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (19-8) put forth a tremendous effort on Tuesday evening as they took on the #1 seed, Baruch College (22-5), however they could not pull of the upset as they fell by a final of 87-75.

Brooklyn held a lead for most of the first half which saw 14 lead changes over the 20 minute period.  Two free throws by Priscilla Ramirez (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) with 3:51 remaining in the opening stanza gave Brooklyn a 31-28 lead, but then a lay-up by Christina Kelly (Manhattan Center, New York, NY) and a three pointer by Monique Salmon (Truman / Bronx, NY) gave Baruch a 33-31 advantage that they would not relinquish.  

Baruch entered the locker room with a 39-34 advantage behind 7 points and 6 assists from Salmon.  Brooklyn's Amber Gordon (Bishop Loughlin / Brooklyn, NY) led all scorers at the half with 13 points.

The two teams traded baskets for the first few minutes of the second half before Baruch went on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 52-42 with 15:36 remaining, however Brooklyn answered right back, going on a 7-0 run of their own, as Amber Gordon hit a three to pull her team to within 3, 52-49.

Baruch then capped an 11-2 run as Shadae Rice (Grand Street Campus / Brooklyn, NY) nailed two free throws to balloon their lead to 12, 63-51, with 11:26 left in the game.  

Brooklyn would answer again as they went on a 15-7 run over the next 6:10, cutting the lead to 70-66 with 5:16 remaining.  An 8-2 run by Baruch would push the lead to 10 with under two minutes left to play, forcing Brooklyn to foul and play against the clock.  Baruch would not fold in the game's final minutes as they held onto their lead and will advance to take on #3 Lehman in the CUNYAC Final on Friday.

Salmon led Baruch with 20 points and 10 assists, however the all-conference point guard did turnover the ball 11 times as well.

As for Brooklyn, Gordon led all scorers with 26 points, while Ramirez just missed a triple double as she scored 13 points, dished out 10 assists and pulled down 8 rebounds.  The first team all-conference guard also nabbed a game-high 6 steals.
