BC Women Fall to CCNY

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY -- In the first half of a doubleheader, the BC Women's Basketball Team (9-7, 5-2 CUNYAC) fell to CCNY (5-11, 3-4 CUNYAC) by a score of 57-55 at the West Quad on Wednesday night.

At the end of the first half, the Bulldogs held a 32-23 lead. That lead grew to a 44-27 lead with just over 14 minutes left in the second half. But the Beavers began to battle back. With just 4:29 left in the game, CCNY cut the Brooklyn lead to just 10, the smallest it had been since early in the second half.

After giving up a basket to Priscilla Ramirez (Franklin D. Rosevelt / Brooklyn, NY), the Beavers went on a 14-0 run to end the game and defeat the Bulldogs by two. The run was led by Ashley Straughn (Freeport / Freeport, NY), Rynae Rasley (Chadlerr Gilbert CC / Arizona), and a stingy CCNY defense, which caused four turnovers in the final 3:39. The Bulldogs were outscored by 11 in the second half.

Justin O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) led the Bulldogs with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) chipped in 12 points and six boards.  The Beavers were led by Ashley Straughn's 19 points and seven rebounds.

Up next for the Bulldogs, a matchup with the Baruch Bearcats on Saturday, January 23 at noon. The game will be the first half of a women's and men's doubleheader.
