Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (8-5, 4-0 CUNYAC) upped their conference record to 4-0 as they cruised by Medgar Evers (5-7, 1-3 CUNYAC), 85-46 on Saturday afternoon.
Four Bulldogs scored in double-figures in the victory, while junior guard
Amber Gordon (Bishop Loughlin / Brooklyn, NY) led the way with 16 points in only 18 minutes of play.
Brooklyn jumped out to a 12-2 lead over the first 3:31, as Gordon poured in 6 points in the opening minutes. Medgar Evers answered right back, outscoring BC 11-7 over the next 6 minutes, cutting the Bulldog lead to 19-13.
A
Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) lay-up, responded to the Medgar run, and ignited a 21-3 Brooklyn run that seemingly deflated the Cougar cause and helped up the halftime lead to 46-18.
The second half saw more of the same as an
Elisha Raiford (William C. Bryant / Long Island City) lay-up with 5:20 remaining gave BC their biggest lead of the game, an 83-42 advantage.
"We were relentless on the defensive side of the ball today," said Head Coach
Alex Lang. "We knew it was a big game in the conference standings and we weren't going to be denied."
Lyons finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Raiford finished with 5 points and 4 steals off the BC bench.
Ariel Smith (Wallkill / Newburgh, NY) also netted 15 points, while
Priscilla Ramirez (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) scored 10 and nabbed 4 steals.
Tiffany Thomson (South Bronx / Bronx, NY) led Medgar Evers with 20 points and 15 boards.
Brooklyn will continue conference play on Wednesday as they take to the road and travel to Manhattan's West Side to take on the John Jay Bloodhounds at 5:00 pm.
