New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team concluded the 2011 portion of its 2011-2012 schedule with a 63-51 loss against New York University in non-conference action earlier today. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 6-4 overall on the season, while the Violets improve to 6-2 overall on the year.

Tiffany Thompson netted a team-best 13 points to go along with a team leading nine rebounds and game-high three blocks. Senior forward
Melissa St. Louis added 10 points and four assists coming off the bench.
NYU was led by Cara Bonito who dropped a game-high 17 points. Bianca Storts chipped in with 16 points, while Shelby Coon added 11 points coming off the bench. Makenzie Hirz grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
For the game, the Bulldogs shot 33.9% (20-59) from the field and 25.0% (3-12) from three, while shooting 47.1% (8-17) from the line.
NYU shot 39.6% (19-48) from the field, while going 2-for-8 (25.0%) from beyond the arc. The Violets took full advantage from the charity stripe converting on 23-for-33 (69.7%) from the free throw line.
The first half featured a tight contest throughout with NYU leading by as many six points on a number of occassions. After buckets from NYU's Storts and BC's Thompson made it 2-2 in the opening segments of the game at the 18:56 mark, the Violets took an early six-point advantage using a 6-0 run to take an 8-2 lead with 14:58 left before the break. NYU would never trail in the half as the Violets took a 23-19 advantage heading into the halftime break. NYU scored 14 points off of 13 BC turnovers in the opening half to help the Violets maintain their advantage.
NYU would continue to build on its lead in the second half. Following a layup from Brooklyn's
Charnelle Saint Laurent that made it 26-21 in favor of the home Violets early in the second period with 18:43 remaining in the game, NYU used a 7-2 run to take a double digit lead, 33-23, at the 15:53 mark.
The Violets would lead by double figures the rest of the way, leading by as many as 18 on two occasions. Free throws were key in the second half for NYU, as the Violets converted 21-of-29 (72.4%) from the line.
Brooklyn returns to action on Wednesday, January 4th, as the Bulldogs will play host to City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) South Division rival York College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm at the West Quad Center.
