Men’s Volleyball Falls to Lehman, 3-0

Box Score

Bronx, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team fell to the Lightning of Lehman College in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match on Thursday night at the Apex in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-20). With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 4-8 overall on the season and 4-5 in league play; while the Lightning improve to an even 8-8 overall on the year and 5-4 in conference play.

The win for the Lightning evens the season series with the Bulldogs, as Brooklyn defeated Lehman earlier this season on February 5th, 3-1 (27-25, 27-29, 27-25, 25-20).

Freshman Alexander Shlivko led the Bulldogs with a team-high 10 kills, while senior Gene Tom dished out seven assists to go with seven digs. Timothy Hui finished the night with nine digs.

For the Lightning, Nate Martin led a balanced Lehman attack recording a game-high 12 kills, while RJ Leblanc chipped in with nine kills and seven digs and Manuel Bonilla had seven kills and seven digs. Miguel Gallardo paced the offense with 30 assists, to go along with five kills. Luis Colon had nine digs for the match.

Lehman controlled the first set hitting a remarkable .571, totaling 14 kills, while committing just two errors. Up by four, 12-8, the Lightning rattled off six straight points to take a ten point lead, 18-8. Lehman would go the rest of the way unchallenged, cruising to a 25-14 win in the opening set.

The Lightning's hitting would come down to earth in the second set as Lehman committed seven errors; however, the Lightning would still record 12 kills in the period. Up by two, 8-6, Lehman would take hold of the set scoring nine straight points to go up 11, 17-6. Brooklyn would begin to chip away at their deficit, eventually getting to within four, 21-17, but that's as close as the Bulldogs would get as Lehman scored the next four points to close out the set, 25-17.

The third and final set featured much of the same as the Lightning recorded 12 kills en route to the 25-20 victory. Tied at 15 all, Lehman would go on a 5-1 run to seize control of the set, 20-16, eventually going on the straight sets win.

Brooklyn returns to action on Tuesday, March 1st, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Cougars of Medgar Evers College in CUNYAC action. Game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm in the West Quad Center. BC will look to sweep the season series against the Cougars, as BC defeated Medgar 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-22) on February 22nd.
