Men’s Volleyball Falls to New Jersey City University, 3-0

Jersey City, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team fell to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University in a non-conference match earlier tonight in Jersey City in straight sets, 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-21). With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 1-1 on the year, while the Gothic Knights improve to 2-2 on the season.

Up by six, 11-5, in the first set, NJCU rattled off nine straight points to take full control of the opening set, 20-5, as the Gothic Knights would go on to cruise to the 25-8 victory. Brooklyn committed eight errors in the set, while NJCU hit .444 in the set.

The second set featured a much tighter contest with 11 ties and eight lead changes. With the set tied at 19 all, the Gothic Knights used a 5-0 run to take a 24-19 advantage for the eventual 25-20 win. The Gothic Knights notched 14 kills in the set while hitting .379 and were aided by seven BC errors.

NJCU continued to control the match scoring the first four points in the third set. The Bulldogs would tie the game on two occasions at six all and seven all, but would be unable to take the lead as the Gothic Knights would edge out a 25-21 victory to take the match.

Freshman Alexander Shlivko led BC with a game-high nine kills, to go along with six digs, while juniors David Choy and Mohamed Taman each added four kills. Sophomore Guillermo Melosevich paced the offense with 17 assists on the night, while senior Gene Tom chipped in with a team-best eight digs.

For the Gothic Knights, Michal Kucza notched seven kills for the game, as Kenny Lisk and Nathan Joubert each chipped in with six kills. Jorge Rodriguez set up the offense all night long with a game-best 28 assists. Chris Edra recorded a game-best nine digs for NJCU.

The Bulldogs are back in action this Saturday, February 5th, as Brooklyn will take part on both Baruch College and Lehman College in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Multi-Match. BC will take on Baruch at 12:00 pm and Lehman at 2:00 pm. The Multi-Match will be held at the ARC Arena on the campus of Baruch College.
