New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team split a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Multi-Match earlier today at the ARC Arena on the campus of Baruch College. The Bulldogs are now 2-2 overall on the young season and 2-1 in the CUNYAC.
The Bulldogs began the day falling to the host Bearcats of Baruch (4-9 overall, 2-0 CUNYAC) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-12), but bounced back in their second game to take down the Lightning of Lehman College (2-6 overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) in four thrilling sets, 3-1 (27-25, 27-29, 27-25, 25-20).
In the opening game against the Bearcats, freshman
Alexander Shlivko led Brooklyn with nine kills, while senior
Gene Tom dished out 14 assists on the afternoon.
Baruch's balanced attack was led by Pablo Oliveira, who also posted nine kills on the day with a .462 hitting percentage. As a team, the Bearcats hit .426 (39 kills, 13 errors, 61 total attacks). Jesus Echevarria paced the offense with 24 assists, to go along with three service aces.
In game two against the Lightning, Shlivko once again led the way for BC posting 17 kills in the match. Junior
Duong Thai chipped in with 15 kills, while classmates
Mohamed Taman and
David Choy finished the match with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Taman was solid all day long posting an impressive .500 hitting percentage (13 kills/1 error/24 total attacks) for the match. Sophomore
Guillermo Melosevich dished out 53 assists on the day, while freshman
Timothy Hui was solid defensively with 18 digs.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday, February 10th, when Brooklyn will travel to Jamaica, NY to take on the Cardinals of York College in a CUNYAC match. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
