Purchase, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team began the 2012 season with a tough luck loss on the road against the Panthers of SUNY Purchase on Tuesday night, 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-12).
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 0-1; while the Panthers improve to 1-2 overall.
After dropping the first set 25-18, BC battled back to go ahead 2-1 following wins in the second and third sets, 25-23 and 25-21, respectively. The fourth set featured a tight seesaw battle, which would go in favor of the home team, 26-24, to force a fifth and deciding set. Purchase would eventually take the final set and match, 15-12.
“It was a tough first match,” said head coach
Michael Salak, making his Brooklyn debut on the sidelines. “In the end it was our own mistakes that lost the match. One positive thing we can take from this is that we know more about ourselves now. Many of our weaknesses were exposed and we will take a look at the video and use the next couple of practices to make adjustments.”

Alexander Shlivko led Bulldogs with 17 kills, while senior opposite hitter
Duong Thai added 15 kills. Classmate setters
Gene Tom paced the offense with 36 assists to go with five kills, while sophomore libero
Timothy Hui chipped in with eight digs.

Lucas Moline each had four block assists on the night. Moline also had two block solos.
For the Panthers, Kevon Kareem Bruce led the way with 17 kills, while Mateo Morel contributed with 11 kills. Alex Billen-Calhoun dished out 42 assists.
Brooklyn returns to action this Saturday, February 4th, as the Bulldogs will take on City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rivals Lehman College and Baruch College in a CUNYAC Multi-Match, which will be held at Hunter College. BC will take on Lehman at 9:00 am and then battle Baruch at 11:00 am.
