Men’s Soccer Earns ECAC Bid; Takes on #3 NJCU

Centerville, MA --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team has been selected to play in the eight-field team 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Tournament. The Bulldogs, the #6 seed, will go up against the #3 seed Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University in the Quarterfinals Round this Friday, November 9th at Alumni Field on the campus of Rutgers-Newark in Newark, NJ at 8:30 pm (New Date, Time and Location).

BC earned the #6 seed by virtue of their 13-5-2 record. The Bulldogs recently lost in the finals of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) to Baruch College, 4-2, and will look to make a strong showing in the ECAC Metro Tournament.

NJCU, members of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, enters the ECAC Metro Tournament as the #3 seed with an 11-9 overall record. The Gothic Knights will pose a strong threat to BC, as NJCU has solid wins over New York University, Ramapo College, Richard Stockton, St. Joseph's College (Long Island) and Baruch. NYU, Ramapo and Richard Stockton are also in the ECAC Metro Tournament, while St. Joseph's (LI) and Baruch will be participating in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Brooklyn will look to continue their stellar play at home, where the Bulldogs boast an 8-0-1 record in their first season at BC Field.

Leading the way this season for BC has been senior forward Pajtim Gjonbalaj, who leads the team in goals scored (10), assists (6) and points (26).  Senior midfielder Alwyn Adams has also contributed to the Brooklyn offense with eight goals and five assists for 21 points, while junior midfielder Dmitry Prokofyev also has eight goals on the year, to go along with four assists for 20 points.

Junior midfielder Peterson Petit Frere has helped fuel an explosive Bulldogs offense tying for the team lead in assists with six, to along with five goals for 16 points.

As solid as BC's offense has been, its defense has been just as impressive, posting 10 shutouts on the year.

Anchoring Brooklyn's defense has been the play of junior co-captain Peter Vavalle, senior Denton Laing, junior Taras Frankivskyy and freshman Steve Orellana.

Along with a stout defense, the Bulldogs have also had stellar play between the pipes in junior co-captain keeper Stamatis Boundouris. Boundouris has played over 1578 minutes in goal this season, allowing 20 goals, while recording 76 saves. He sports a 1.14 goals-against-average and a .792 save percentage, while registering six shutouts on the year.

The Gothic Knights are 5-4 on the road this season and are led by Eduardo Tejada, who has record 10 goals and 10 assists on the year for 30 points. Nana Kofi Kusi has added six goals and two assists for 14 points, while Andre Lopes has three goals and seven assists for 13 points on the season.

NJCU has split time in goal between Sheldon Parkinson and Kevin Fuentes. Parkinson has made 11 starts, playing over 962 minutes, allowing 22 goals and making 76 saves, to post a 2.06 goals-agains-average and a .776 save percentage; while Fuentes has made nine starts, playing over 865 minutes, allowing 25 goals and making 48 saves, to post a 2.60 goals-against-average and a .658 save percentage.

The winner between BC and NJCU will advance to the semifinals round on Saturday, November 10th, where the winner between #2 Richard Stockton and #7 Mount St. Mary will await. Location and time are to be determined.
