BC Uses 47-Point Second Half To Beat NYU, 66-57

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---After struggling for much of the first half of play and falling down 21, 40-19 at the break, the Brooklyn College Women used a 47-point second half to come back to take a 66-57 victory over visiting NYU on Monday night at West Quad.

"This was a huge win for us," said Brooklyn Coach Alex Lang.  "Our fans were great in helping us rally in the second half, but I have to say our players stepped up their intensity level big time and really willed their way to this victory."

The game started out all NYU as they opened a 27-4 lead to open the game behind some incredible shooting.  A three-pointer by Brooklyn's Charnelle Saint Laurent and a pull-up jumper from Nicole Francomano cut the deficit to 18, but that was at close as the Bulldogs would get for the remainder of the period as the Violets took a 21-point, 40-19 lead into the half.

NYU was 6-7 from behind the arc over the first twenty minutes, as they hit on six consecutive three pointers to begin the game.

The second half would be an entirely different ball game as Brooklyn forced the tempo and locked down defensively.  The Bulldogs scored the first 10 points of the half to cut the deficit to 11, as a three-point play by Vanessa D'Ambrosi capped the run.

NYU responded with a three-point play from freshman center Megan Dawe to push their lead back to 14, 43-29, however Brooklyn would then go on an amazing 15-0 run to take a one point lead, 44-43, with 11:32 remaining in the game.

The Violets would respond with only their second field goal of the half, another bucket by Dawe, to retake the lead, 45-44, but Brooklyn's Sarah Shanderson followed with a big three-point basket, sparking an 11-3 run to give BC a 55-48 lead with 6:36 to play.

The teams would exchange buckets, before a D'Ambrosi three-pointer with 3:41 to playwould give the Bulldogs a 9 point advantage and seemingly clinch the win.  Two Francomano free throws boosted the advantage to 10, Brooklyn's highest lead of the evening, 64-54, with 50 seconds to go.  The Bulldogs would go on for the 66-57 win.

D'Ambrosi led all scorers with 23 points, while Saint Laurent added 14, six assists and six steals.  Francomano also dished out six assists, while adding eight points.  Center Tiffany Thompson filled up the stat line with seven points, 13 boards, four blocks and two steals.

Dawe, Nicole Lem and Cassidy Jordan each poured in 15 for NYU in defeat.  Riley Wurtz added a game-high 14 boards.

Brooklyn will remain at home as they host CUNYAC opponent York College on Thursday at 5 pm.  The game will be televised for CUNY TV and aired at a later date.  It will be the first game of the evening's doubleheader as the men battle York in the second game at 7:30 pm.
