Men’s Volleyball Splits Tri-Match

Box Score vs Albertus Magnus College

Box Score vs. St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team split its tri-match today at Brooklyn Technical High School, falling to Albertus Magnus College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20), before defeating host St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-11). The Bulldogs now stand at 1-5 overall on the season.

In the first game of the day for BC against Albertus Magnus, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore Alexander Shlivko, who totaled nine kills. Senior Gene Tom paced the offense with 19 assists, while freshman David Dimitruk, making his first collegiate start, recorded nine digs and four kills. Senior Duong Thai chipped in with six kills.

For the Falcons, Brendan Charamut finished the game with nine kills, while Glenn Johnson added seven kills, eight digs and nine block assists. Carlos Torres dished out 26 assists.

Coming in their second game of the day against St. Joe's (Brooklyn), the Bulldogs were once again led by Shlivko who recorded 10 kills in the match with a .474 hitting percentage, to go along with four service aces. Senior Russell Morton was also solid on offense, making his first start of the season, recording a .444 hitting percentage with five kills. Tom added 21 assists and five digs, while sophomore Timothy Hui registered nine digs.

For the Bears, Martin Torres led the way with seven kills and six digs, while Iqbal Husain added 10 assists.

“The loss against Albertus Magnus was disappointing,” said head coach Michael Salak. “I am still trying to figure out our team and what our best lineup is. It was good to get our first win today, but our play has not yet met our expectations.”

Brooklyn returns to action on Thursday, February 16th, as the Bulldogs will hit the road to take on the Hawks of Hunter College in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
