Men’s Volleyball Splits Tri-Match

New Haven, CT --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team split its tri-match today at the CMM Athletic Center in New Haven, CT defeating Yeshiva University, 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-18), before falling to host Albertus Magnus College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-10). The Bulldogs now move to 2-7 overall on the season.

Coming in the opening match against Yeshiva, Brooklyn dropped the first set 25-21. However, the Bulldogs would show their determination battling back to take the next three straight sets for a come-from-behind 3-1 victory.

Leading the way for BC was sophomore Alexander Shlivko, who totaled a team-high 17 kills, to go along with 11 digs and five service aces. Senior Duong Thai added 14 kills, while classmate Gene Tom dished out a match-best 47 assists. Sophomore Timothy Hui added a match-high 12 digs. Junior David Rafailov chipped in with nine kills and three block assists, while freshman David Dimitruk contributed with seven kills.

For Yeshiva, Raphael Herskovits recorded a match-best 19 kills, to go with a team-high eight digs and four service aces, while Adam Rhodes dished out 18 assists.

In the nightcap, BC and Albertus Magnus battled in a tight, hard-fought match. The first two sets were nail biters, as the host Falcons edged out the Bulldogs by scores of 25-23 and 27-25, respectively. Albertus Magnus would take the third and final set with relative ease, 25-10.

Brooklyn was led once again by Shlivko who registered a team-high nine kills. Tom again paced the offense with 21 assists, while Hui was solid on defense picking up 14 digs. Thai added five kills and four block assists, while Dimitruk also contributed with five kills.

Albertus Magnus was led by Brendan Charamut who finished the game with a match-best 14 kills, while Douglas DeSousa added 10 kills. Chris Pfeffer had 13 digs and five block assists, while Glenn Johnson added 12 digs and eight kills. Carlos Torres handed out 38 assists.

BC returns to action tomorrow night, Monday, February 20th, as the Bulldogs will be on the road against borough rival Polytechnic Institute of New York University. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
