Men's Volleyball Sharp In 25-7, 25-20, 25-12 Home Win Over St. Joe's

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team looked impressive during its straight set victory over St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) on Friday evening at the West Quad Center, cruising to the 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-12) victory.  With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 3-8 on the season, while the Bears fall to 1-4.

Brooklyn was led by senior Duong Thai who had a match-high eight kills to go along with 12 digs and four service aces.  Classmate Gene Tom had a match-high 23 assists, as he did a wonderful job distributing the ball.

Junior David Rafailov had a big match with six kills, while sophomore Vaughn Ford added five kills. Sophomore Timothy Hui, the reigning CUNYAC Libero of the Year, was tops on the evening with 13 digs.

After the Bears scored the first two points of the opening set, the Bulldogs rattled off 13 straight points on the strength of Thai's servicing, to take a commanding 13-2 lead. BC would cruise to a 25-7 win hitting a solid .368 (10 kills/3 errors/19 total attacks).

The second set featured a much tighter contest, as Brooklyn earned a hard fought 25-20 win. The Bulldogs offense struggled in the set, hitting just .031 (10 kills/nine errors/32 total attacks).  Up by one, 6-5 early in the set, BC extended its lead to 9-5 and later 14-7. However, the Bears would not go quietly, battling back to make it 14-11. Brooklyn would run off five consecutive points to go ahead 19-11 and take the eventual win.

Tied at 2-2 in the third set, the Bulldogs ran off on a 13-2 run to take a control of the set, 15-4. BC would cruise the rest of the way to take a 25-12 win and the match. The Brooklyn offense was strong once again hitting .348 (12 kills/four errors/23 total attacks).

Brooklyn will be idle until Tuesday, February 28th, when the Bulldogs travel down Bedford Avenue to take on borough and conference rival Medgar Evers College at 7:00 pm.
