Bulldogs Drops Home Opener To York, 25-10, 25-20, 25-23

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball Team played in front of their home fans for the first time on Thursday evening, but the Bulldogs were unsuccessful in trying to earn their first win of the season, falling to York in three sets, 25-10, 25-20, 25-23.

The win improved the Cardinals record to 5-4 and 2-0 in CUNYAC play, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-4, 0-3 on the young season.

Duong Thai was BC's main source of offense throughout the evening as the outside hitter led the team with eight kills, including five in the final set, as the home squad rallied to a near-win in an attempt to extend the match.

In the set the Cardinals jumped out to a 19-13 lead, but Thai, who had already kept his team in the set with five kills, served up six straight points, evening the score at 19.  On a Thai service error, the lead would to the Cardinals, but a Tobi Awopetu service error would immediately even the score back at 20.

The teams would exchange points until the game was tied at 23 and an Edison Chow service error would give York a 24-23 advantage.  Brooklyn would have a chance to tie, but Gene Tom could not connect with Thai on a set that was too high for the hitter, and York would with the set and match.

Tom had a team-high 19 assists for the Bulldogs while Timothy Hui notched a match-high 17 digs.

York was led by Edner Geffard, who had a match-high 17 kills, while hitting at a .500 percentage.  Bryan Williams added 13 kills and eight digs for the Cardinals in the conference victory.

Brooklyn will be back in action on Saturday as they head to Brooklyn Technical High School for a trimatch against host St. Joseph's College and Albertus Magnus.  The Albertus Magnus match is scheduled for 2 pm with the St. Joseph's match to follow at 4 pm.
