Men’s Volleyball Falls to Lehman in Straight Sets

Brooklyn, NY ---- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 contest to City University of New York Athletic Conference rival Lehman College (25-19, 25-21, 25-13) tonight at the West Quad Center.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 6-11 overall on the season and 2-7 in the CUNYAC; while the Lightning improve to 12-6 overall on the year and 6-3 in the CUNYAC.

For BC, sophomore Alexander Shlivko tallied a team-high six kills, while freshman David Dimitruk added five kills on .625 hitting. Senior Gene Tom paced the offense with 18 assists, while sophomore Timothy Hui contributed with nine digs.

For Lehman, Luis Colon registered a game-high 10 kills to go along with a game-high 10 digs for the double-double, while Brian Francisco and Manuel Bonilla each notched eight kills apiece. Miguel Gallardo dished out 25 assists on the night.

In the first set, the Lightning used an early 4-0 run to take a 6-2 lead. Lehman would continue to lead throughout the set and used another 4-0 run late in the set to go up 19-12, as the visitors would go on to take the 25-19 win.

The second set featured strong offensive performances from both sides, as both offenses hit over .300, with the Lightning hitting .308 (13 kills/five errors/26 total attacks) and the Bulldogs hitting .333 (10 kills/3 errors/21 total attacks).

With the set tied at 3-3, Lehman rattled off five straight points to take an 8-3 advantage. The Bulldogs answered with a 4-0 run to cut their deficit to one, 8-7; however, the Lightning would strike once again with a 5-1 run to extend their lead to 13-8. Brooklyn would spend the rest of the set chipping away at its deficit, but could only get as close as two, 22-20, before Lehman finished off the set with a 25-21 win.

The third set also featured a tight contest early on. After BC took a slim 8-7 lead, the Lightning scored four straight to go back up 11-8. From there on out, Lehman would outscore Brooklyn 14-5 the rest of the way, including a 7-0 run to close out the set, en route to its 25-13 win.

Brooklyn will be right back at it tomorrow, Wednesday, March 14th, as the Bulldogs will travel to New York, NY to take on conference rival Baruch College. The match is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the ARC Arena.
