Box Score

New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team concluded its 2012 regular season with a straight sets victory over the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-22), earlier tonight in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match-up.

With the win, BC improves to 9-13 overall and 5-9 in the CUNYAC; while John Jay falls to 4-15 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Keiran Halton, who recorded a match-high 12 kills, while posting a .688 hitting percentage. Senior Duong Thai added eight kills and two service aces, while classmate Gene Tom paced the offense with a game-high 27 assists. Sophomore Timothy Hui chipped in on the defensive side with eight digs.

For the Bloodhounds, Korede Griffith finished the night with five kills and two aces, while Rashid Allah Morad contributed with four kills. Frankie Galang dished out eight assists and five digs. Francisco Miranda also had five digs.

Trailing 3-1 early in the first set, Brooklyn used a 4-0 run to take a 5-3 advantage.  With the Bulldogs later holding on to a slim 11-10 lead, BC rattled off six straight points on the strength of the serving of junior Christopher Valverde to take control of the set, 17-10. Brooklyn would go on to cruise to its 25-16 win, as the Bulldogs benefited from their strong offensive production posting a .304 (11kills/4 errors/23 total attacks) hitting percentage.

The second set featured much of the same as the first, as both teams battled back-and-forth early on. With Brooklyn up 11-10, the Bulldogs used a 7-0 run on the strength of the serving from junior Edison Chow, to go up 18-10. From there on out, BC would go on to easily take the set, 25-14.

After taking the first two sets, Brooklyn looked to quickly close out the match in the third set. BC jumped out to an 11-4 run; however, the Bloodhounds would not go down without a fight, as John Jay began to chip away at its deficit. The home team would eventually tie the set at 22 all, but that's as close as the Bloodhounds would get, as the Bulldogs scored the final three points in the set to take the 25-22 win.

“The guys played well tonight,” said Head Coach Michael Salak. “We were able to give a lot of guys much deserved playing time. All in all, it was a good way to end the regular season.”

With the regular season now over, Brooklyn will turn its attention towards the 2012 CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Championships. The quarterfinals round is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10th.
