BC Women Play To Hard-Fought 0-0 Tie With St. Joe's

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer Team came very close to the first win in the first-year program's history on Thursday as they could not convert on a couple second half opportunities, but held on defensively, for a 0-0 tie against visiting St. Joseph's College Brooklyn.

For the Bears their record moves to 1-0-1 on the year, while the Bulldogs goes to 0-2-1.

The first half saw St. Joseph's appear to be in control, keeping the ball on Brooklyn's side of the field for much of the period and outshooting BC, 9-3.  The Bulldogs senior goalkeeper, Melissa St. Louis, was outstanding, making three saves to help her team get to the break in a scoreless tie.

In the second half the Bulldogs seemed to be the aggressor and dominated play as they outshot the Bears, 6-2, including a couple of breakaway opportunities for forward Shani Abrahams.  This time it was the visiting keeper who would keeper her team in the contest as Nicole Farinella made five second half saves.

Ultimately Brooklyn had nothing to show for their improved play, as the teams remained scoreless and headed into overtime.  In the first overtime both teams looked to be deflated and worn down, but 4:29 into the stanza Abrahams was able to get another shot on goal, but could not get it past Farinella.

In the second overtime period, St. Joseph's Pam Chernyakhovsk turned from 20 yards and sent a shot high that hit the crossbar and bounced over the goal.  It was the final scoring chance in the contest as the hard-fought game ended in a draw.

Chernyakhovsk led the Bears in shots with six, while both Abrahams and Catherine Quinn took four shots a piece for the Bulldogs.

"We played with a lot of determination and are improving with every game," said first-year coach Patrick Horne of his team's effort.

Coach Horne and his Bulldogs will be back in action next Thursday, September 20th, when they host CUNYAC foe York College at 4:00 pm.
