Brooklyn Women Get First Win, 2-0 Over York

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer Team continues to improve as they followed up their first tie of the young season with their first win, a 2-0 conference victory over York.  The victory improved their overall record to 1-2-1, while bringing their CUNYAC mark to 1-2.  The Cardinals fall to 1-2-1 and 0-2 in league play.

The first half was dominated by the Bulldogs, yet the team had nothing to show for their efforts at the break as both teams failed to convert on a score and BC's first goal of the season continued to evade the first-year squad.

Brooklyn was way ahead in shots, taking 11 to York's one over the first 45 minutes. Brooklyn keeper Karolina Gorna got her first start of the year and made a first-half save on York's lone shot on goal, keeping her team even.

In the second half, Brooklyn continued to keep the ball at York's end of the field and controlled much of the play, and finally, in the 57th minute, the Bulldogs got their first goal as Shani Abrahams crossed the ball to Eka Beriashvili, who found the left corner of the net, putting the team up 1-0.

The goal seemed to put the Brooklyn players at ease, and they became even more agressive as a result, tacking on another goal in the 63rd minute, as Abrahams got a rebounded ball and put it passed the keeper to give BC the 2-0 advantage.

"After working so hard for the past few weeks, it feels amazing to see our team work together and finally captitalize on opportunities to earn our first win," said Abrahams.  "We are proud to have won at home and are looking forward to practicing hard and staying focused on our upcoming games."

The contest would only last another six minutes as in the 69th minute, the York Head Coach, Kafui Kouakou, was assessed a red card for arguing and the York squad could not continue without a coach and therefore the game was halted.

Brooklyn, coming off their first win, will head to Aviator Field on Monday to take on NYU Poly at 7 pm.
