BC Women Run Past CCNY, 73-40, For Sixth Conference Win

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team used a 53-13 run to cruise past the visiting CCNY, 73-40, on Saturday afternoon.  The Bulldogs improve their season record to 11-5, 6-2 CUNYAC, while CCNY falls to 3-13, 3-5.

The game started out very competitively as after a Tiffany Thompson bucket put Brooklyn up 2-0, the Beavers responded with a 12-4 run , capped by a Syreeta Williams jumper, to take a 14-6 lead of their own.

It was all Bulldogs after that as the home squad erupted for the 53-13 run to take a 32 point lead and total control of the game.

"I thought our energy on defense and our ability to get out in transition wore our opponent down," said Brooklyn Head Coach Alex Lang.  "I give CCNY credit for the way they began the game, but I was proud to see the way our team bounced back and picked up our intensity defensively."

Brittany Bowen, who started the game cold from the field, eventually heated up and led Brooklyn with 14 points.  Nicole Francomano was four assists short of a triple double, as the sophomore guard tallied 12 points, 10 steals and six assists, while going 6-9 from the field.

Starters Tiffany Thompson and Charnelle Saint Laurent also finished in double figures as each had 10 points, while Saint Laurent added four assists.

Asia Foster came off the BC bench to chip in with five points and eight boards.

Brooklyn turned the ball over only nine times, while forcing 33 CCNY miscues.  The Bulldogs also nabbed 25 steals on the day.  Brooklyn ranked 4th in the nation prior to today's contest with an impressive 17.2 steals per game, a number that is sure to go up after today's performance.

Bria Fisher led the Beavers with nine points, while Williams had a game-high nine boards for CCNY.

Brooklyn will remain home on Tuesday when they host borough rival St. Joseph's College at 7 pm.  Friday's home game vs. Staten Island, the team's next CUNYAC game, will also be women's basketball Alumni Night.  The game will begin at 5 pm and be followed by the men's game vs. CSI.
