Men’s Volleyball Opens Season at NJCU Quad Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Jersey City, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team opened its 2013 regular season competing at the New Jersey City University Quad Match on Saturday, facing off against host NJCU (2-1), Wentworth Institute of Technology (3-1) and The City College of New York (1-2).

The Bulldogs opened the day against NJCU falling in straight sets 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 25-21). BC was led by sophomore David Dimitruk's seven kills and seven digs, while junior Timothy Hui dished out 16 assists. Sophomore Lucas Moline chipped in with five kills.

The Gothic Knights were led by Besmir Arslani's match-high 15 kills hitting .480 and seven digs, while Justin Beaumont finished with 12 kills hitting .333. Gary Preston Jr. handed out 32 assists, while Nick Poh chipped in with eight digs. As a team, NJCU posted a solid .358 (42 kills – 13 errors – 81 total attacks) hitting percentage for the match.

In BC's second match of the day against Wentworth Institute, the Bulldogs once again fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-12).

Brooklyn's Dimitruk once again led the way for BC with nine kills, while hitting .389, to go along with six digs. Moline added six kills, while Hui again paced the offense with 23 assists and five digs.

The Leopards were led by Elijah Egalite's match-high 10 kills hitting .474, while Rami Akouri and Brian Mann added nine and eight kills, respectively. Tyler Moriarty posted a match-best 32 assists. As a team, Wentworth Institute recorded a .387 (38 kills – 9 errors – 75 total attacks) hitting percentage for the match.

BC's third and final match of the day came against a familiar opponent, as the Bulldogs took home CUNY Athletic Conference rival CCNY in a non-conference matchup. The Beavers got the better of the Bulldogs taking a straight sets win, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22).

For Brooklyn, Hui, Dukhyun Ko, Michael Boodram and Vsevolod Tsyupa all finished with four kills. Hui also had nine assists and eight digs in the match.

CCNY's Yik Lim recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs, while Bryan Hu added 24 assists. Jose Castillo and Rubin Taipi each chipped in with seven kills.

Brooklyn (0-3) will return to action on Thursday, January 31st, as the Bulldogs will welcome the Panthers of Purchase College to the West Quad Center for BC's 2013 home opener.  The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.
