Abrahams’ Late Goal Propels Women’s Soccer Over CCNY

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- Senior Shani Abrahams scored her eighth goal of the season in the 89th minute of play to lift the Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team past the Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY) in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 9-1 overall on the season and more importantly move to 3-1 in the CUNYAC to take sole possession of second place in the league standings; while the Beavers fall to 8-5 overall on the year and 3-2 in the conference.

The win was also Brooklyn's ninth shutout of the season.

“The team is showing the level of maturity that I expected to see at this point in the season,” said head coach Patrick Horne.  “The important aspects of their game are coming together and they are looking more and more like a well organized and focused unit.”

The first half featured a scoreless period, as neither team was able to get on the board. BC controlled the majority of the stanza, as Brooklyn outshot CCNY 12-0; however, the Bulldogs would be unable to beat to the visiting keeper, as Nicole Carroll registered nine saves to keep the game 0-0.

The second half featured much of the same, as Brooklyn continued to set the tempo.

With the game looking to head into overtime, sophomore Sayla Flores sent a pass to an open Abrahams, who was able to send a shot into the upper right corner and finally beat the goalkeeper. For Abrahams, the goal would be her fourth game-winner of the year.

Making her first start of the season in between the pipes, senior Karolina Gorna played all 90 minutes to earn her first win of the year. Gorna was helped by a relentless BC defense, anchored by freshman Jasmine Fermin, which held the Beavers to just one shot in the game.

Carroll also played all 90 minutes in net, totaling 10 saves in the game.

Brooklyn returns to action this Wednesday, October 16th, as the Bulldogs will take on borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn).
