Women’s Soccer Scores 10th Win of the Season with 6-1 Triumph Over St. Joe’s (BK)

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team secured its 10th win of the season on Wednesday afternoon at BC Field, as the Bulldogs defeated the Lady Bears of St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), 6-1.

With the win, BC improves to 10-1 overall on the season, while the Lady Bears fall to 2-9 overall on the year.

The Bulldogs got on the board early, as senior Shani Abrahams, the reigning City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Women's Soccer Player of the Week, found the back of the net in the 2nd minute of play with freshman Jordan Kerwin assisting on the play.

Kerwin would later set up BC's second goal, as she sent a long pass to junior Bergelie Louis, who found the back of the net in the 23nd minute, giving Brooklyn a 2-0 lead.

The score would remain 2-0 as the teams headed into the halftime break.

Abrahams would add an assist to her stat line in the 59th minute as she found an open sophomore Shani Nakhid-Schuster, who notched Brooklyn's third goal of the game.

Kerwin later scored two goals, in the 69th and 74th minute, respectively, with sophomore Sayla Flores assisting on both scores.

Flores registered her third assist of the game when she passed to Abrahams, who added her second score of the game in the 77th minute of play, to cap off BC's scoring and give the Bulldogs a 6-0 advantage.

The Lady Bears would finally get on the scoreboard in the 79th minute, when Pam Chernyakhovsky scored off of a direct kick. The score would be the first goal allowed at home for the Bulldogs this season.

Senior Karolina Gorna started in net for BC, playing 81:14 minutes, while sophomore Michelle Cranston finished off the final 8:46 to combine for the shutout victory. Nicole Farinella played all 90 minutes in goal for St. Joseph's (BK), making 17 saves.

The stout BC defense held the Lady Bears to just three total shots on the day.

The game was originally scheduled to be held at Aviator Field; however, it was moved to BC Field due to Aviator being closed from the government shutdown.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Saturday, October 19th, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a CUNYAC matchup. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start time.
