Women’s Basketball Wins 11th in a Row; Tops CCNY 64-27 in Regular Season Finale

Box Score New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team cruised to a 64-27 victory over the Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY) in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) matchup on Tuesday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of CCNY to close out the 2012-2013 regular season.

With the win, BC extends its winning streak to 11 straight to improve to 20-5 overall on the season and 14-2 in the CUNYAC, as the Bulldogs will be the #2 seed in the upcoming 2013 CUNYAC/Con Edison Women's Basketball Championships, which will tip-off this Saturday, February 16th with the quarterfinal round. The win also gives Brooklyn its second straight 20-win season.

With its loss, CCNY closes out the regular season with a 4-20 overall record, including a 4-12 mark in conference play.

Brooklyn scored the first nine points of the game and never trailed in the half, as the Bulldogs would take a 35-17 halftime lead. BC held CCNY to 30.4% (7-23) shooting from the field in the half, while Brooklyn shot 38.5% (15-39) from the field in the period. Junior Vanessa D'Ambrosi led the Bulldogs with 10 points in the first half, while senior Tiffany Thompson added seven points and six rebounds. The Beavers' Bria Fisher led all scorers with 15 points.

The second half featured much of the same, as the Bulldogs opened up the period on a 16-0 run to take a commanding 51-17 lead at the 15:15 mark of the second stanza. BC would never look back as the visitors would go on to cruise to its 64-27 win.

D'Ambrosi finished the game with 19 points to lead all scorers, while Thompson and senior Brittany Bowen added nine points each. Sophomore Nicole Francomano dished out six assists to go with six points, while classmate Asia Foster grabbed a team-high seven rebounds coming off the bench.

Fisher was held scoreless in the second half as she finished with 15 points, to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds to record a double-double.

For the game, BC shot 38.0% (27-71) from the field and 21.1% (4-19) from three. The Bulldogs also went 6-for-10 (60.0%) from the line. Brooklyn also won the battle of the glass, 49-33, and scored 16 points on second chance points. BC's tenacious defense also racked up 17 steals and forced the Beavers into 25 turnovers, which led to 36 points off of turnovers.

CCNY was held to just 25.5% (12-47) shooting from the field, as the Beavers scored a season-low 27 points on the day.

The two teams will meet again this Saturday, when the CUNYAC Championships tip off, as the #7 seeded Beavers will come to the West Quad Center to take on the #2 seeded Bulldogs in the quarterfinal round. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
