Men’s Volleyball Falls in Five Sets at Bard

Box Score Annandale-on-Hudson, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match on the road against the Raptors of Bard College on Saturday afternoon in five sets, 3-2 (25-17, 24-26, 26-24, 14-25, 15-7). With the loss, Brooklyn falls to 2-4 overall on the season, while Bard improves to 2-10 overall on the year.

After dropping the first set, 25-17, the Bulldogs bounced back to edge out a 26-24 win in the second set, tying the match at 1-1. The Raptors would squeak out a 26-24 win of their own in the third set to go up 2-1; however, Brooklyn would again answer with a dominating 25-14 win in the fourth set, forcing the decisive fifth set. In the end, the Bulldogs' comeback attempt would fall short, as the Raptors took the fifth and final set 15-7 to earn the 3-2 match victory.

For Brooklyn, sophomore David Dimitruk and Dukhyun Ko finished the match with 13 kills each to lead the Bulldogs. Ko also added 11 digs to record a double-double. Junior Timothy Hui dished out 36 assists, while freshman Ricky Myint was solid defensively with 21 digs. Senior Mateusz Gotowicki was a force in the middle racking up four solo blocks, to go with three block assists. Gotowicki also added five kills.

Host Bard was led by Kai Bernier-Chen, Billy Williams and Jesse Small, as all three registered 10 kills apiece. Small also chipped in with 12 digs to record the double-double. Henry Kasiske handed out a match-high 38 assists, while Daniel Gagne added a match-best 22 digs.

Brooklyn hurt itself by committing 22 attack errors and 15 service errors.

“We played well, but we did not take care of the ball,” said head coach Michael Salak. “Too many errors make it difficult to win matches. We beat ourselves.”

Brooklyn returns to the court this Thursday, February 21st, as the Bulldogs will play host to CUNY Athletic Conference and borough rival Medgar Evers College. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start at the West Quad Center.
