Women’s Basketball Punches Ticket to CUNYAC Semifinals; Defeats CCNY 71-21

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The 2 seeded Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team cruised past the 7 seeded Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY), 71-21, in the quarterfinal round of the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Con Edison Women's Basketball Championships on Saturday afternoon at the West Quad Center.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was senior Brittany Bowen, who led all scorers with a game-high 16 points, going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. For her efforts, Bowen was named the CUNYAC/Con Edison Player of the Game.

Junior Vanessa D'Ambrosi added 13 points, while senior Tiffany Thompson recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Senior Trina Payne added seven points coming off the bench, while junior T'Keyah Francis helped crash the boards contributing with nine rebounds. Brooklyn out-rebounded CCNY 48-42 for the game.

The suffocating BC defense held the Beavers to just 16.7% (7-42) shooting from the field for the game, while forcing CCNY into 28 turnovers, which led to Brooklyn scoring 35 points off of those turnovers.

Following a bucket by Syreeta Williams that tied the game at 2-2 early in the contest, Brooklyn used an 8-0 run to go ahead 10-2 with 16:40 remaining in the first half. Bowen keyed the run nailing a pair of three pointers.

Later on in the opening half with BC leading 21-10, at the 9:58 mark, the Bulldogs would put the game away for good utilizing a 16-0 run to go up 37-10 with 3:22 left before the halftime break. Brooklyn would eventually head into the locker room with a 40-12 advantage.

The second half featured much of the same, as the Bulldogs scored the first 15 points of the second period to go up 55-12. The Beavers would be unable to recover from its scoring drought as BC would eventually go on to cruise to its 71-21 win.

CCNY's Williams finished the game with eight points and 10 rebounds.
