Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- In City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action, the Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team picked up a straight sets victory over the Lehman College Lightning, 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-20), on Wednesday evening at the West Quad Center.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 6-8 overall on the season and 4-3 in the CUNYAC; while the Lightning fall to 7-9 overall on the year and 2-6 in conference play.
Tonight's victory also gives Brooklyn the season series sweep over Lehman, as BC won the first meeting between the two schools back on February 13th at the APEX on Lehman's campus, in a five-set thriller 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 15-13).
Leading the way for the Bulldogs tonight were sophomore
David Dimitruk and junior
Timothy Hui, as the duo recorded nine kills each, a match-high. Dimitruk also added a match-best 14 digs and pair of service aces, while Hui also chipped in with nine assists and seven digs. Senior
Christopher Valverde paced the offense dishing out 14 assists, while classmate
Mateusz Gotowicki finished with five kills.
For Lehman, Brian Francisco posted eight kills, while Luis Colon handed out 13 assists. Andrew Morejon recorded seven digs on the night. Ahmad Abugharbieh was solid up front in the middle totaling five block assists. As a team, the Lightning racked up nine team blocks.
BC controlled the opening set by scoring the first nine points. The Bulldogs would never trail, as the home team would go on to cruise to a 25-13 win to go ahead 1-0.
The second set featured much of the same, as Brooklyn used a key 6-0 run after Lehman tied the match at 5-5, to go ahead 11-5. The Bulldogs would eventually go on to take the set 25-19 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
The third and final set was the most competitive, as the teams combined for 10 ties and five lead changes. With the match tied at 18-18 late in the set, the Bulldogs rattled off a 4-0 spurt to go ahead 22-18. The run would be enough to help put the Lightning away in straight sets, as Brooklyn would go on to take a 25-20 win to take the match.
Brooklyn will return to action this Monday, March 11th, as the Bulldogs will play host to borough foe, the Blue Jays of Polytechnic Institute of New York University. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time at the West Quad Center.
