Men’s Volleyball Falls to Baruch in CUNYAC Semifinals

Box Score New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team, the #4 seed in the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championships, lost to the top seeded Bearcats of Baruch College on Friday evening in the semifinals round at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of the City College of New York (CCNY).

Baruch, currently ranked seventh in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 15 Coaches Poll, defeated the Bulldogs in straight sets, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-18), to advance to the championship final.

Brooklyn was led by sophomore David Dimitruk, who tallied a team-best eight kills, en route to being named to the All-Tournament team. Junior Timothy Hui added a team leading 12 assists, to go with six digs and four kills, while senior Christopher Valverde contributed with 11 assists. Sophomore Lucas Moline chipped in four kills and freshman Ricky Myint finished with six digs.

For Baruch, Steven Coniglio registered a match-high 11 kills, while posting an outstanding .846 hitting percentage. Martin Joksimovik had a near perfect hitting percentage (.909) finishing with 10 kills, while Scott Standring paced the offense with a match-best 31 assists.

As a team, the Bearcats registered an impressive .465 (42 kills/9 attack errors/71 total attacks) hitting percentage, as Baruch's offense powered the #1 seed to victory.

The Bulldogs conclude the 2013 season with a 13-12 overall record, their best season since 2007, which saw Brooklyn post a 16-8 record.  With head coach Michael Salak expected to return 10 of 13 players next year, 2014 should be another exciting season for the BC Men's Volleyball program.
