Men’s Volleyball Sweeps CCNY; Clinches Home Court Advantage for CUNYAC Championships

Box Score New York, NY --- In City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Tuesday night, the Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team defeated the Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-22), in a match played at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of CCNY.

With the win, BC improves to an even 11-11 overall on the season and 7-6 in the CUNYAC; while CCNY drops to 13-14 overall on the year and 6-8 in conference play.  The win also clinches home court advantage for the Bulldogs during the quarterfinals round of the CUNYAC Championships on Tuesday, April 9th. #4 Brooklyn will once again take on the Beavers, as CCNY has secured the #5 seed.

All three sets featured tight battles, as the teams combined for 26 ties and 12 lead changes on the night. Brooklyn's offense helped lead the way to victory, as the Bulldogs registered a .248 hitting percentage (40 kills/14 attack errors/105 total attacks).

Leading BC's offense was sophomore David Dimitruk, who tallied a match-best 12 kills, to go along with nine digs and two service aces. Junior Timothy Hui contributed with 10 kills and 15 assists, to record a double-double. Hui also finished with eight digs. Senior Christopher Valverde dished out a game-high 20 assists.  Freshman Serhan Akturk chipped in with six kills, while senior Mateusz Gotowicki added five kills and three total blocks.

The Beavers struggled with their hitting, posting a .012 hitting percentage (20 kills/19 attack errors/ 84 total attacks). For CCNY, Derell Williams and Mikko Baylosis each had five kills, while Bryan Hu dished out 11 assists. Bobby Xihe Xie had a match-high 14 digs, while Brian Yik Lim added 10 digs.

“Our boys came to play tonight,” said head coach Michael Salak. “It was really fun to be a part of. All pistons were firing for us. Every guy who stepped on the court made a significant contribution at some point, but now we have to do it all over again. At least we get to do it at home!”

Brooklyn has one game remaining before the CUNYAC Championships, as the Bulldogs will be on the road to take on conference and borough foe Medgar Evers College on Thursday, April 4th at 7:00 pm.
