Box Score Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team erased a 20-point halftime deficit, but would be unable to complete its dramatic comeback, as the Bulldogs fell 79-76 in overtime against the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action.
The loss snapped BC's five-game winning streak, as the Bulldogs fall to 12-5 overall on the season and 6-3 in the CUNYAC. Staten Island remains perfect in conference play at 10-0 and moves to 15-3 overall on the year. The Dolphins have now swept the Bulldogs in the regular season, as CSI defeated Brooklyn, 61-48, back on December 6th.
The Dolphins led wire-to-wire in the first half, as Staten Island went 13-for-30 (43.3%) from the field, including going 8-for-14 (57.1%) from beyond the arc and 9-for-12 (75.0%) from the free throw line, en route to taking a 20-point halftime lead, 43-23. CSI would lead by as many as 24, 35-11, with 6:30 left before the intermission break.
Brooklyn's offense struggled to get going in the opening half, as the Bulldogs shot just 23.1% (9-39) from the field, including going 0-for-9 from three and 5-for-8 (62.5%) from the line.
The second half saw a complete 180 degree turn, as the Bulldogs outscored the Dolphins 46-26 in the second stanza to force the overtime period.
With Brooklyn trailing by one, 69-68, with just three seconds left in regulation, junior
Nicole Francomano had a chance to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the game and potentially the win, as the Staten Island native went to the free throw line. Francomano drilled one of two, tying the game at 69 all. The Dolphins would attempt a shot in the final seconds; however, the desperation shot would not go down, as the game would head into the extra frame.
The overtime period saw four lead changes and one tie, as the Dolphins would outscore the Bulldogs 10-7 to escape with the 79-76 win.
Senior
Megan Campbell carried the Bulldogs offense in the extra period scoring six of BC's seven points. Her jumper at the 2:15 mark of the overtime period gave Brooklyn a one-point lead, 75-74; however, CSI would answer with its second three-pointer of the period to go ahead for good.
Francomano finished with a team-high 18 points for BC to go with eight rebounds and four assists, while Campbell added 17 points and nine rebounds. Junior

T'Keyah Francis grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds. Junior
Asia Foster pulled in 10 rebounds to help the Bulldogs out-rebound the Dolphins by a margin of 68-50, leading to 29 second chance points for the visitors.
Megan Myhre led all scorers for CSI with a game-high 26 points going 7-for-12 from three, to go with seven rebounds, while Johnson finished with 24 points and eight rebounds. Katelyn Hepworth added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Victoria Gallinaro dished out eight assists, to go with eight points and six rebounds.
Brooklyn shot just 28.6% (26-91) from the field, including 22.6% (7-31) from three. The Bulldogs went 17-for-25 (68.0%) from the free throw line.
Staten Island shot 35.8% (24-67) from the field, including going 12-for-31 (38.7%) from beyond the arc. The Dolphins shot well from the stripe going 19-for-24 (79.2%) from the line.
Brooklyn returns to action this Monday, January 27th, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College (NY) in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 pm tip at the West Quad Center.
