Men’s Volleyball Downs Purchase in Four Sets, 3-1

Box Score Purchase, NY --- After dropping the opening set, the Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team took three straight sets to take home a hard fought, four-set victory over the Panthers of Purchase College, 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18), on Tuesday evening in Purchase, NY.

With the win, BC improves to 2-3 overall on the season, while Purchase drops to 0-1 to open its 2014 campaign.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was junior David Dimitruk, who recorded a double-double with 12 kills (.391 hitting percentage) and 11 digs. Classmate Vaughn Ford added nine kills, while posting a stellar .500 hitting percentage, to go along with three aces.

"Vaughn Ford had a break out night for us," said head coach Michael Salak. "He served really well and also attacked well. David Dimitruk also stepped up his game and gave the team leadership with his play. Once again we had a slow start, but once we got going there was no stopping us."

Senior Timothy Hui was solid defensively registering 17 digs to go with eight kills, while sophomore Hoyin Ki paced the offense with 33 assists. Sophomore Ricky Myint chipped in with 14 digs.

As a team, the Bulldogs totaled 39 kills, 13 service aces and seven total team blocks led by five block assists and one solo block from sophomore Antony Koyfman.

For Purchase, Kevin Carges led the team in kills with 12, while Andrew Schwab dished out 19 assists.

Brooklyn will return to action this Saturday, February 1st, as the Bulldogs will travel to Bronxville, NY to take on Sarah Lawrence College and Wells College in a tri-match. BC will begin against host Sarah Lawrence at 11:00 am and Wells at 1:00 pm.
