Box Score 2 Mahwah, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team dropped both of its matches on Saturday at the Ramapo College tri-match, falling to host Ramapo in straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-19), and #10 Elmira College in four sets, 3-1 (25-13, 19-25, 25-14, 25-16).
BC falls to 6-7 overall on the season.
"We are starting to gel more as a team," said head coach
Michael Salak. "However, we are still making a lot of unforced errors. We need to serve tougher and clean up our offensive attack."
For Brooklyn, this was its second loss of the season against Ramapo, as the Roadrunners defeated the Bulldogs in straight sets, 3-0 (25-8. 25-15, 25-21), back on January 26th as part of the Ramapo College Roadrunner Invitational.
The match against Elmira, who is currently ranked 10th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men's Coaches Top-15 Poll, was BC's third ranked opponent of the season. Brooklyn fell to then #4 SUNY New Paltz, 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-15), and then #11 Stevenson University, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-22) on January 25th at the Roadrunner Invitational.
In the first match of the day for the Bulldogs against Ramapo, Brooklyn was led by junior
David Dimitruk's team-high seven kills. Classmate
Mihail Osipov added six kills and seven digs, while senior
Timothy Hui paced the offense with 18 assists.
The Roadrunners' Evan Carey posted a match-best eight kills (.429), while Alec Weissman dished out 19 assists. As a team, Ramapo hit a solid .300 with 39 kills.
The match saw 33 total ties and 14 lead changes as Ramapo swept the match by taking home close wins in all three sets.
In the second match of the day for Brooklyn against Elmira, sophomore
Antony Koyfman powered the offense with eight kills, two aces and five total blocks. Osipov also chipped in with eight kills, while Hui handed out 21 assists, to go along with 11 digs for the double-double. Sophomore
Ricky Myint also contributed with 11 digs.
For Elmira, Dylan Kuhn registered a match-best 10 kills (.833), while Michael Vellutato dished out 22 assists. As a team, Elmira hit .216 with 39 kills, while also adding eight team blocks.
Brooklyn will return to action this Thursday, February 20th, as the Bulldogs will travel up Bedford Avenue to take on borough and City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) foe Medgar Evers College. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start time at the Cougars Cave on the campus of Medgar Evers.
