Box Score 2 Bronx, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team split its City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Multi-Match on Saturday at the APEX on the campus of Lehman College, as the Bulldogs lost to the Cardinals of York College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 25-19), before defeating the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-12).
BC moves to 5-4 overall on the season and opens conference play with an even 1-1 mark.
"All of our sets against York were close; however, when we needed to step up and rise to the occasion, we did not," said Head Coach
Michael Salak. "I would have liked us to show more spunk and confidence."
In the first match of the day against the Cardinals, the Bulldogs were led by junior
Mihail Osipov, who registered a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Senior
Timothy Hui paced the offense with 18 assists, to go along with five kills and five digs, while sophomore
Antony Koyfman added four block assists and four kills. Classmate
Hoyin Ki added nine assists.
In the second and final match against the Bloodhounds, the Bulldogs posted a solid .338 (32 kills, 10 errors, 65 total attacks) hitting percentage to earn the split. Leading the way was the duo of junior
David Dimitruk and Koyfman, who recorded nine kills each. Hui and Ki again paced the offense, finishing with 17 and 10 assists, respectively.
Brooklyn will return to action this Wednesday, February 12th, as the Bulldogs will host CUNYAC foe the Lightning of Lehman College for BC's 2014 home opener. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time at the West Quad Center. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.
