Men’s Volleyball Splits CUNYAC Multi-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 New York, NY --- At the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) multi-match on Saturday held at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller against #13 ranked Baruch College and swept the City College of New York (CCNY) in straight sets.

Brooklyn moves to 9-9 overall on the season and 5-3 in CUNYAC play.

"Our guys really stepped it up today," said head coach Michael Salak. "We played consistent team volleyball for eight sets. A team is only as good as its individual parts and our guys did a great job of fulfilling their responsibilities."

In the first game against Baruch, who is currently ranked 13th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, the Bulldogs dropped the opening two sets, 25-21 and 25-22, to dig themselves into an early 2-0 hole. Brooklyn would not go down lightly; however, as the Bulldogs battled back to take 25-21 and 25-20 victories in the third and fourth sets, respectively, forcing a fifth and final decisive set. In the end, Brooklyn's upset bid would fall short, as the Bearcats closed out the final set with a 15-7 victory to take the match.

Classmate David Dimitruk added 12 kills, while senior Timothy Hui paced the offense with 43 assists, to go with 10 digs, to also register a double-double. Kaimis also added 10 digs to record a double-double, while Scott Standring dished out 51 assists. The Bearcats' play at the net was key to their win, as the team totaled 13.5 blocks, led by seven total blocks from Malo (two solo and five assist).

In the second match for Brooklyn, the Bulldogs swept CCNY in three competitive sets (25-23, 25-19, 25-19). BC returns to action on Thursday, March 13th, as the Bulldogs will host the Cardinals of York College in a key CUNYAC match-up. The game is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the West Quad Center. Brooklyn will look to split the season series against York, as the Cardinals defeated the Bulldogs in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 25-19), back on February 8th on a neutral court at Lehman College.
