Men’s Volleyball Takes on CCNY in CUNYAC Quarterfinals

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Bulldogs enter the 2014 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men's Volleyball Championships as the #4 seed, after finishing the regular season with a 15-14 overall record, including an 8-6 mark in conference play. BC will take on the #5 seeded Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY), who completed the season with a 9-19 overall record, including a 5-9 record in the CUNYAC, in the quarterfinals round on Tuesday, April 8th at 7:00 pm at the West Quad Center.

Brooklyn and CCNY are no strangers this season, as Tuesday's quarterfinal match will feature the fourth time the two teams will have met this year.
 
The Bulldogs defeated the Beavers in a non-conference meeting on a neutral court, as part of the Ramapo College Roadrunner Invitational, on January 26th in straight sets, 3-0  (25-12, 25-20, 25-21). In their first conference match of the season, on another neutral court, at John Jay College of Criminal Justice as part of a CUNYAC multi-match, Brooklyn once again defeated City College in straight sets, 3-0  (25-23, 25-19, 25-19). In their final conference meeting of the year just a week ago on April 1st, BC again got the better of CCNY in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 26-24).

The winner between Brooklyn and CCNY will advance to the semifinals round, scheduled for Friday, April 11th at Baruch College at 6:00 pm, where the winner between top seed Baruch and #8 seed Medgar Evers will await. The final will also take place on April 11th at Baruch College at 8:00 pm.

Looking to lead the Bulldogs to a third straight appearance in the CUNYAC semifinals will be the trio of juniors Mihail Osipov and David Dimitruk and sophomore Antony Koyfman. Osipov leads the team in kills-per-set, averaging 2.92 k/set, to go along with 2.20 digs-per-set. Dimitruk is averaging 2.32 k/set, to go with 1.83 d/set and 0.47 service aces-per-set. Koyfman is averaging 2.49 k/set and has been a force at the net, averaging 0.84 blocks-per-set.
 
Senior Timothy Hui has paced the offense all season long, averaging 6.72 assists-per-set, to go along with 1.89 d/set, 0.89 k/set and 0.47 aces/set. Sophomore Ricky Myint has been solid defensively at the libero position, averaging 2.19 d/set.

Senior Lucas Moline (1.05 k/set) and junior Vaughn Ford (1.35 k/set) have also been key figures t the BC offense this season.
 
For CCNY, the Beavers are led by the trio of Nicholas Siriban (2.63 k/set), Derell Williams (2.53 k/set) and Brian Lim (2.10 k/set). Anthony Reyes is averaging 7.36 a/set.
